Palate Home was co-founded by Don Norman and Bruce Tognazzini, two foodies and well-known advocates of user-centric UX design, to develop an Internet of Things (IoT) “smart” grill. I was contacted by them to help with the design and launch of a prototype product from a tech incubator program.

  • Designed UX and look & feel of the iOS controller application.

  • Wrote hardware control requirements and designed hardware/application interactions.

  • Rebranded ▸ and repositioned company. Wrote and presented incubator graduation and investor pitches.

A home chef can cook a perfect steak with the Palate Home grill with four taps: select protein from the main screen, select the cut, select doneness, and press Start.

The grill has temperature sensors and determines the optimal cooking process based on starting temperature of the food and thickness. Once cooking is done, the grill can hold food at the final temperature without overcooking.
